Thirteen Unions File Lawsuit Saying Trump Executive Orders Violated the Rights of Congress and Federal Workers

June 13, 2018 - WASHINGTON

A coalition of 13 unions, the Federal Workers Alliance (FWA), representing 300,000 federal workers employed in hundreds of occupations ranging from teachers in Department of Defense Dependent Schools, to Immigration Judges, to NASA rocket scientists, to welders at naval shipyards sued the Trump administration today for violating the rights of government workers to be represented by unions in their workplaces. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court of the District Columbia. 

“This is a democracy and not a monarchy with a king who can unilaterally eliminate the rights of Congress and federal workers,” said Paul Shearon, who serves as secretary treasurer of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers.

FUSE Negotiates Settlement to Suspend Parking Fines Illegally Imposed by Navy

Nov. 8, 2017 - Newport, RI 

FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 successfully completed months of negotiations with the assistance of the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) to force the Navy to suspend fines imposed for minor parking and traffic violations.  The Navy imposed the fines and other penalties without negotiating the impact on FUSE bargaining unit employees with the union, in violation of the Federal Labor-Management Relations Statute.  

FUSE Negotiates Settlement for FY17 DEMO Pay Increases & Bonuses

FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 successfully negotiated a settlement with NUWC Newport management that ended a stand-off over Incentive Pay increases and bonuses that began in May 2017.  The settlement ensures that over 2,000 FUSE bargaining unit members will receive the pay increases and bonuses they earned in Fiscal Year 2017. 

FUSE Negotiates $6 Million Settlement Ending 5-Month Standoff with NUWC Management over Pay Increases & Bonuses

March 8, 2017 - Newport, RI

FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 successfully negotiated a settlement with NUWC Newport management today that ended a 5-month stand-off over Incentive Pay increases and bonuses that began in Oct. 2016.  The settlement ensures that over 2,000 FUSE bargaining unit members will receive the pay increases and bonuses they earned in Fiscal Year 2016, which were unlawfully withheld by management while the parties negotiated their FY16 contract.

FUSE & NAGE Recover Over $1.5 Million in Back Pay for FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 Members

July 29, 2016 - Newport, RI 

After three years of hard-fought arbitration hearings, Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges, and settlement negotiations, over 1,100 FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 bargaining unit members received over $1.5 Million in back pay from the Navy due to the hard work of FUSE Local President Dale Dandrea, Vice President Neil Jackson, and NAGE Assistant General Counsel Jim Dever.

FUSE and NAGE Unions and Members Donate $3,000 to Local Charities

Dec. 15, 2015 - Newport, RI

As is our tradition this time of year, on December 15th both Unions at NUWC Newport (FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 and NAGE Local R1-134) delivered funds generously donated by our members to Lucy's Hearth in Middletown and the Veteran's Home in Bristol, RI.

This year the Union and our members donated $1,500 to Lucy's Hearth (www.lucyshearth.org) and $1,500 to the Bristol Veteran's Home (www.vets.ri.gov/healthcare/RIVeteransHome).

The funds will be used by Lucy's Hearth to take care of 14 families in need of shelter and assistance, and the Veterans Home to care for 166 veterans.

We are honored to have this opportunity, and we thank our members for their generous donations to these worthy causes. 

FLRA files Complaint against Asst. Sec. of the Navy for Interfering in FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 Contract

 

Feb. 27, 2015 - Newport, RI

The Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) filed a Complaint today against the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower & Reserve Affairs) on behalf of FUSE / NAGE Local R1-144 members who were cheated out of approx. $1.3 Million in Bonus Pay (BP) in FY14.

The Asst. Sec. of the Navy had claimed that the Union's contract was "unenforceable", and BP payments required by the contract were "not legally required to be paid" by NUWC Newport.  FUSE filed an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charge in Sept. 2014 to appeal the Navy's decision.

A hearing has been scheduled by the FLRA for May 19th in Newport, at which point the FLRA will prosecute the complaint against the Navy on behalf of the Union.

FUSE and NAGE Locals Donate $1,500 to Rhode Island Veterans Home

On December 27, 2012, NAGE Locals R1-134 and R1-144 (FUSE) were honored to make a donation of $1,500 to the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol RI.  The Veterans Home currently cares for 195 veterans.  This donation was made possible through the generosity of the union membership, who made cash donations and participated in raffles at the union’s Christmas Party.  As employees of the Department of the Navy, the union membership takes great pride in helping those who defended our country and to let those aging veteran’s know they are not forgotten.  This donation will assist in upgrading their recreation room and relocating it from the basement to the first floor to improve it and make it more accessible to the veterans.  Presenting the check to Brigadier General (Ret.) Baccus, on behalf of the unions, are Dale Dandrea (FUSE President), Jennifer Ferriera-DaSilva (NAGE official), and Patrick Lavery (NAGE Local R1-134 President).
